Week 7 — Extra Credit: Pixel Art in Tile Farm Studio

This week’s Extra Credit invites you to create a pixel art design using Tile Farm Studio, Tile Farm’s open-ended building environment.

Creating pixel art is a joyful and creative experience, but it’s also deeply mathematical. As you build, you naturally engage with important number sense ideas such as arrays, multiplication, composition and decomposition, fractions, and coordinate grid structure.

Studio offers another powerful entry point into number sense that emphasizes creativity, ownership, and play alongside mathematical thinking.

Extra Credit: Create & Share

To get started:

  1. Watch the short video showing how to create pixel art in Tile Farm Studio.
  2. Create a pixel art design of your choice. There are no constraints, experiment freely.
  3. Share your design using a share code.
  4. Submit your share code and reflection using the form below.

How Share Codes Work

Once you’re ready, share your canvas using a share code and submit it through the form below using the steps outlined in the GIF below.

Reflect on the Experience

Share Code (small open field)

Reflect on your experience:

  • What math did you use while creating your pixel art?
  • What choices did you make as you built and revised your design?
  • How might an activity like this support number sense, creativity, or engagement for your students?

Submit your Extra Credit by 2/25/2026 for a chance to win a gift card to the Tile Farm marketplace.

If you’d like support or want help navigating Studio, you’re always welcome to join Teacher Fellowship office hours.
