Tile Farm Privacy Policy for Students

Tile Farm’s Commitment to Student Privacy

Tile Farm is committed to protecting student data so that educators and families can feel confident using our platform both in the classroom and at home. While we encourage you to read this entire Privacy Policy and our Terms of Use, we’ve outlined a few essential principles below:

  • Tile Farm does not sell, lease, trade for value, or use for targeted advertising any personal information belonging to students.
  • We only collect the minimum information necessary to operate our learning tools—this may include a student’s first name, last initial, state or province (for standards alignment), and grade level.
  • Our services do not include third-party advertising or behavioral targeting within any student-facing experiences.
  • Student data is used solely to support and personalize the learning journey, such as tracking progress or tailoring content to individual learning needs.
  • All of Tile Farm’s core math education activities are available at no cost to educators.
  • Optional subscriptions may be purchased by families to unlock additional features that support engagement and learning.
  • Tile Farm is committed to full compliance with state, provincial, and federal student data protection laws, including verification and certification through independent organizations.

This Privacy Policy outlines how Tile Farm Inc. (“Tile Farm,” “we,” or “us”) collects, uses, protects, and shares personal information of student users (“Student Users” or “you”) through its learning tools, games, and educational content (the “Services”), available at play.tilefarm.com and related platforms.

Information We Collect from Student Users

When using Tile Farm, we collect certain types of student data—either directly from students or through educators or parents who create accounts on their behalf.

User Types:

  • Student Users (children and students interacting with the Services)
  • Parent Users (parents or guardians managing or monitoring their child’s progress)
  • Educator Users (teachers or school staff using Tile Farm in educational settings)

A student’s account can be linked to one or more Parent or Educator accounts. Linked adults can view information related to a student’s performance, learning activity, and progress.

What We Collect:

  • First name
  • Last initial
  • General location (state/province/country)
  • Grade level
  • Login credentials or a third-party single sign-on
  • A class code (optional, when linking to an Educator)

Each student receives a unique login name based on non-identifiable information and selects an avatar (e.g., “MikeyJ1”) for in-game representation. These avatars are not unique and are not used to publicly identify individuals.

Tile Farm does not collect:

  • Biometric data
  • Precise geolocation
  • Sensitive health or medical information

Students cannot create or upload custom content into the platform other than geometric designs created using Tile Farm’s design tools.

Information Collected Through Devices and Use

Performance Data:
As students use the Services, we collect information about what activities they complete, which skills they practice, and how they perform—such as time spent, accuracy, and progress. This data is used to support learning outcomes and to generate reports for linked educators or parents.

Device and Usage Data:
We collect standard web and app analytics, including:

  • Browser type
  • Operating system
  • IP address (used for region-level location only)
  • Page views and interaction data

This information is collected via cookies and similar technologies (e.g., pixel tags) used solely to support functionality, optimize learning content, and enhance performance. We do not use these technologies for third-party tracking or targeted ads.

Third-Party Authentication:
Tile Farm allows logins via approved single sign-on providers (e.g., Google, Clever, ClassLink). We only receive limited personal data based on what you share with that provider. This use is governed by your account settings and the provider’s own privacy policies.

How We Use Student Information

We use collected student data strictly to:

  • Operate and provide the learning Services
  • Customize educational experiences to student needs
  • Monitor and report academic progress to linked adults
  • Improve our content, user experience, and educational design
  • Comply with legal obligations or respond to lawful requests

Advertising Policy:

We do not:

  • Use behavioral profiling
  • Enable third-party ad targeting
  • Track users across other websites
  • Send marketing content to Student Users

De-Identified Data:
We may create de-identified or aggregated data sets for research, analytics, or educational improvement. These data sets cannot be used to identify specific users.

How We Share Student Information

Tile Farm discloses student information only when necessary and never for third-party advertising, reselling, or behavioral tracking.

We share student data:

  • With linked Parents or Educators
  • With affiliated service providers under strict confidentiality agreements
  • When required by law or to comply with valid legal processes
  • During business transactions such as mergers or acquisitions, provided student data protection terms remain intact

All messaging in the student experience is restricted to pre-approved phrases that do not allow students to exchange personal information. We do not retain these in-game social messages.

You can view a full list of third-party providers we use [on our website].

Student and Parent/Educator Rights

Account Access & Controls:
Parents and Educators can view, update, or request deletion of Student User data by contacting our support team or logging into their linked account.

Deletion Requests:
If a request is made to delete a Student User’s information:

  • We remove personally identifiable data as required by law.
  • If the student is still linked to another Parent or Educator, we preserve that relationship to allow continued learning support.

If a student account is fully deactivated or unlinked, all data is either deleted or anonymized.

  • Request access to the data we’ve collected
  • Request corrections or deletion
  • Know how your data has been used or shared
  • File an appeal if your request is denied

Tile Farm never collects more data than necessary and prohibits third-party advertising or behavioral profiling.

Data Storage and Retention

Student data may be stored in the United States, Canada, or other jurisdictions where we or our partners operate. These jurisdictions may not offer the same legal protections as your home country. However, Tile Farm will always use secure practices when transferring or storing information.

We retain student data for as long as a student account is active. We may also retain information beyond account closure if required by law or for legal protection purposes. Inactive accounts may be deleted after a period of time.
